Eurgh so sorry to hear about the phone, Gillian. This also happened to me last week! Even though it’s not the most dangerous form of mugging it can feel so violating… I rely a lot on my phone for work but have been meltdown levels of busy atm and have just… not replaced my phone haha. Not sure if this is making me unhinged to be around / work with but the relief I’ve felt has astonished me. I wrote about it here - would be so curious to hear your thoughts! https://open.substack.com/pub/jsaedwards/p/the-unexpected-joy-of-a-stolen-phone?r=3vylp&utm_medium=ios
Oh this was great but I think I had a different experience to you - I just wanted my phone back! I was waiting to enter the blissful phone-free stage but it never came (in the 50ish hrs I was without a phone lol). Maybe I would have got there had I gone without it a little longer. Really, I need it for work too much! And yes it does feel violating! (I'm also still surprised I ran after him). There is a picture of my father and son as my screensaver and for some reason I really hated that he had that (weird). Anyway I have a new phone now and still have all my messages and photos of my dad which was all I cared about getting back really. Sometimes the iCloud can fuck you over apparently and you lose a bunch of stuff. Lol sorry, long reply.
Oh gosh I can imagine that being such a weird feeling - him having a personal photo. So violating - I hadn’t thought of that. Glad all your stuff was safe. What a wild ride xx
RE: summer holidays. Camp for 2 weeks, grandparents for 1 week, me for 3 weeks. Ever since I learned that Italian kids have THREE MONTHS off for the summer, I’ve felt a lot better…
