I am chuckling at this because I wore eyeshadow from 18-34 but have throttled back this past year as I’m a new mom and I just don’t have the energy! I thought it was me getting older (per your bob) — turns out I’m just cooler now?!
I’m Gen X and have a 1994 book in my collection called ‘Blue Eyeshadow Should Be Illegal’. It gave me a slightly malicious giggle as my mother-in-law at the time (‘Silent Generation’) wore a great wodge of baby-blue eyeshadow. Plus ça change…
The reframing that's happening here is impressive. That what would be confrontational has been turned around to be useful to you and perhaps to your readers.
As a millennial makeup artist that works with gen z in one of the largest makeup companies globally.. eyeshadow is still a thing. But often swapped out in day time looks for a swish of blush or bronzer and highlighter instead ✔️✔️✔️
Cream eyeshadow sticks also make life easy.
Regardless… where what YOU like! If you smile when you see it in the mirror or it makes you feel confident and good, then it is in fashion. One of my favourite clients is almost 80 and rocks bright blue eyeliner and hot pink lips every day. She looks amazing, especially because SHE LOVES it ☺️
Your husband has really upped the game on my current "Ripley (Steven Zaillian) will be my new personality moving forward". I now find myself desperate to do my grocery list on one of these babies.
Lol, my boyfriend and I have been writing "Bella penna" in eachother's notebooks the past couple of weeks now 😅 but of course with a very dignified €4 uni-ball pen.
This is SO interesting! Funnily enough I’ve limited eyeshadow to evening, as I’m finding it is less flattering on my skin as I get older (I’m 46 - Gen X). I’ve thrown out all my beloved full coverage foundation and replaced with BB cream for the same reason. It’s quite liberating.
elder millennial here who mentally never left the age of indie (i.e. LAZY, maybe a red lip if I was making an effort) and still swears by the Glossier look.... I felt that, even if a single shade of applied-with-fingers MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow has been the buttress of most of my wedding-guest/fancy dress occasion makeup looks for the last decade.
I don't want to look 25 either but the kids may be on to a good thing here, if the 'updated' trend involves making less of an effort than what we were doing before. That still doesn't mean I won't flinch when they go after my Ruby Woo next!

Oddly enough, I've only recently started wearing eyeshadow and I'm Gen X! Never felt as though I could properly apply it.
Elder millennial here too and I have to admit it, I do prefer your eyes in the second pic. Damn those kids today...
Right?!

LOL I've been googling the Montblanc pen he uses too (it's a Montblanc 149 apparently) and they go for £860 🙈

Ruby Woo 4-eva
Absolutely. Red lipstick looks better as we get older!
