Hello and welcome! My name is Gillian Orr, I’m an award-winning journalist and the former Editor-in-Chief of Refinery29 UK. I have also written for a bunch of publications including British Vogue, The Times, ELLE, Monocle, Violet, Lula, LOVE and ES Magazine, and a long time ago I was an arts and feature writer at The Independent.
I started Slouching Towards Bethnal Green as a place to write primarily for women over 35. Women’s media typically targets 20 to 35-year-olds to keep advertisers happy and I’ve often felt that women over 35 are excluded from more mainstream conversations. I write about most things that interest me - style, life, beauty, culture and motherhood - with that audience in mind. Naturally, everyone else is welcome too.
I live in east London with my husband, who is an author, and our two-year-old son.
