OK, bear with me for something of an experiment today. I bought three new ‘bottoms’ (a skirt, shorts and trousers) for spring/summer and I thought I would showcase their styling potential, because just three items have completely revolutionised my tired spring wardrobe. But this was before I had set up my iPhone in my living room and started to quietly cringe at all of it: my poses, my hair, my entire being. I almost abandoned the whole thing but decided to be a trooper.
First up is the Dôen skirt. I’ve all but given up on skirts, most of mine are short and they just don’t feel very ‘me’ anymore. But I fell in love with this super-feminine yellow skirt which is just so pretty and ideal for the warmer weather (and running around after a small child). It’s a bit of a statement piece so everything else can be fairly simple, like a vest and Cons here. PS Dôen is currently doing a (US) Mother’s Day sale.
Chuck on some heels and you’ve got yourself a great date night outfit. I love the gold Prada heels (these were my wedding shoes!) with it.
Also can be roughed up with a baggy t-shirt. And, no, I can’t name three Megadeth songs.

I wanted to get some Bermuda style denim shorts last summer but for some reason resisted. I’ve gone all in this year. I tried Agolde’s Risha shorts but they were a little too boxy for me. I knew that Cos had a favourite pair among the style set and, as of last week, they’ve just been restocked. These were ideal and I’ll be in them all summer. I’ve paired it here with this Me+Em top, which is so versatile. It can be worn in a few different ways and Bella Hadid has even been spotted in it. And, sorry, it was cold!
Goes with a mid heel if you want to dress them up a bit. I’d add a belt to this but I left my one and only beloved belt in an Airbnb in Savannah and am yet to replace.
I LOVE this waistcoat, also from Cos. The buttons are hidden and it just makes me feel instantly put together. It’s quite preppy with the shorts but I’m into it. The waistcoat is a bit roomy, I took a size down from my usual.
And some bonus shorts: if you’re not sure about the longer length, in my crazed shorts hunt I also came across these ones, also Cos, and got them too (no, this isn’t sponsored). They’re super cute. Feels good to finally kiss goodbye to denim cut-offs. It’s about time, I’m 42.
Finally, we’re onto the Mango trousers. I have got so much wear out of these since getting them, they’re incredibly versatile. Also comes with a matching shirt if that’s your thing. You can dress them up with a little heel as below.

It’s the Me+Em top again, this outfit is what I wore to my son’s birthday barbecue party at the weekend. He wiped some ketchup on the trousers but they’re machine washable which is obviously handy for mothers of small children.
A much more dressed down look, almost slacker vibes (made more so by my lack of ironing - apols).
OK! I hope this might have been helpful (or provided a laugh). Words return next week.
